Welcome to the website of Acadamaidh Shorinji-ryu na Alba – the Scottish Shorinji-ryu Academy. We are members of the Kokusai Butokukai, which is an international organisation founded by Hanshi Richard Kim (1917-2001). We teach Shorinji-ryu martial arts which includes karate, kobudo (weapons), Qi Kung and Tai Chi.
These Gaelic medium classes are intended to give children with Gaelic the opportunity to
enjoy enriching and fun karate classes.
They were pioneered in face to face classes for nearly 15 years at
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in Skye, and for even longer in Tain, Ross-Shire with the welcome support of the Sradagan programme.
This online initiative is to make the classes available to
children throughout Scotland, or perhaps even farther afield. Any child with the ability to understand Gaelic is welcome.
The instructor is Dr Alasdair MacMhaoirn, 5th Dan Shorinji-ryu, and a retired senior lecturer in Gaelic at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.
